Introducing Allied Grain System’s newest On-Farm Storage Manager, Dave Markham!
You may recognise Dave from our Mates in Grain series! Taking his passion of Ag and grain growing from the agronomy side to storage, Dave is excited to learn a different side to the industry.
Originally from West Wyalong, Dave had an early introduction to the world of ag. His family had a property out towards Lake Cowal where they had a small mixed farm, and his Dad was the district agronomist. Dave studied at the University of New England and graduated to follow in his father’s footsteps, becoming an agronomist.
His career started in the MIA Griffith for three years before he returned to his hometown.
In February 2018 he became the senior agronomist and Branch Manager for Landmark in Young, NSW.
Today Dave says his new role with Allied Grain System remains at achieving the best outcome for the farmer.
“My background helps me relate to growers from a production point of view and the importance of storage. Now, I’m working with them on how they can add more value from a marketing perspective.
“I understand the whole process prior to that, and now I’m learning the process between harvest and marketing and storage. At the end of the day, I’m still trying to achieve the best outcome for the farmer.”
Dave has already been out on the road getting to know our customers’ operations!
What does Dave enjoy most about working with grain growers?
Dave likes that he “rides the rollercoaster” in his role alongside the farmers throughout the season.
“It becomes more of a relationship than just a professional relationship – we deal with customers’ livelihoods where decisions we help make for our growers can affect their outcomes. We take this very seriously.”
“I’ve been in this industry for a while and this is a new challenge, and I’m excited to see what comes of it.”.
On his days off, Dave spends his free time with his family.
