Jamie Latta is a grain grower from Walpeup, near Ouyen, North West Victoria in Mallee.
A fourth generation farmer, with 29 years in the business, Jamie loves reaping the rewards that come with investing time and effort into his vocation alongside his father and two younger brothers.
Jamie grew up in the farming way and currently manages his own 50,000 operation, which is used for the cropping of wheat, barley, canola and lupins.
What is one thing that you’re continually striving towards as a grain grower?
“The main thing for me is that I’m making a good return on my capital.”
What is one thing you love about your job or lifestyle in grain?
“The farming life is one that requires you to commit to very long hard hours but the rewards are there if you put the effort in.”
What do you value most about having mates in the grain industry?
“Farming can be a lonely and isolating business if you let it be. Regularly catching up with Mates over the fence or down the footy club is the best way to stay in touch with reality, maintaining a sense of community and energised to tackle whatever challenges Mother Nature is throwing at us!”
