From a young age Jamie spent the majority of his time helping on his childhood farm with his Pop.
Now living in Young, New South Wales with his wife and three children, he works for the agriculture and horticulture research company, Kalyx, as an agronomy researcher.
Kalyx is spread across Australia to conduct trials in the major broadacre and irrigated cropping belts and the tree crop, turf and vegetable bowls in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
The company prides itself on its team living in the communities they work in, which ultimately creates stronger networks and relationships between growers in the industry every day. Jamie is a big part of that team, and his research is second to none across the country.
What is Jamie continually striving towards in the grain industry?
From the research side, Jamie loves working alongside influential people and seed breeders to improve and develop seed for future growth and improvement. He says that “research with major chemical companies to improve chemicals from weed controls to insecticide” is also a big part of what he’s working towards.
What does Jamie love most about his job in grain?
“I love travelling to all different areas, working in a vast variety of country, and mixing with all the growers,” Jamie says. He adds that he also enjoys helping to ensure the future of the grain industry is evolving as the future does.
What can Jamie rely on his mates for in the grain industry?
For Jamie, he can always rely on the knowledge and expertise of others within his community and industry. “I rely on the communication with farms to ensure that I can provide the best outcome needed for them, and I have a good mate who is a contractor who is always on the other end of the phone if ever needed.”
